Official Brexit Deal Announcement May Not Come Before Market Close

EUROPE

We've seen several estimated times for the EU-UK deal to be announced come and go this morning, including 0800GMT and 1000GMT.

  • As of 1000GMT, BBC journalists reported that UK's Johnson and EU's von der Leyen were due to speak 'shortly'.
  • That would seem the precursor to a press conference announcement, but as of 1050GMT, BBC's Laura Kuenssberg Tweeted: "At the risk of disappointing people, officials who know about fish quotas are still working on spreadsheets about fish quotas in Brussels" and implied that it'd be unlikely we would have an announcement until midday at least.
  • With markets closing early around that time until after the weekend, looks at this point like any impact on announcement (if any) will have to wait as well.
