Official Election Count Suggests Ruling NDA Can Form Government

  • Bloomberg report that India’s ruling alliance led by PM Narendra Modi crossed the majority mark of 272 seats required to form government for a third consecutive term if the partners of the bloc can stick together.
  • The BJP is reported to have won 228 seats and to lead in 12 more, falling short of the number needed to form a government by itself, according to data published by the Election Commission on its website, thus leaving it dependent on allies.
