Officials Deny US/Iran Interim Deal Helping Crude to Recover

Reports late yesterday afternoon London time that the US and Iran were nearing an interim deal have been denied by both US and Iranian officials.

  • The report by the Middle East Eye claimed Tehran would curb its nuclear program in return for sanctions relief, which would result in Iran being able to export crude.
  • "This report is false and misleading," said a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, "Any reports of an interim deal are false."
  • Iran's mission to the United Nations said "Our comment is the same as the White House comment."
  • Oil prices fell by more than $3 a barrel on the Middle East Eye report before recovering some of the losses after the White House denied it.
