Oil Aggregate Open Interest Continues to Increase

Oil market open interest continues to recover with ICE Brent up from 1.85m contracts at the start of the year to 2.169m and WTI up from 1.44m to 1.66m.

  • Aggregate open interest remains well below levels of around 2.7m for Brent and 2.5m for WTI seen at the start of 2021 after a steady decline during 2021 and 2022.
  • Crude futures prices are holding steady today just below yesterday close as the market weighs up the high demand and supply uncertainty.
    • Brent MAR 23 down -0.3% at 85.9$/bbl
    • WTI MAR 23 down -0.2% at 80$/bbl
    • WTI-Brent up 0.19$/bbl at -5.9$/bbl
    • Brent MAR 23-APR 23 up 0.04$/bbl at -0.08$/bbl
    • Brent JUN 23-DEC 23 down -0.01$/bbl at 2.78$/bbl
