Oil Companies in Kurdistan Region Keen to Resume Exports

Oil companies in Iraq’s Kurdistan region are keen to resume exports via the Turkish port of Ceyhan, after the companies were not invited to recent meetings between Iraq’s federal and regional governments according to Bloomberg.

  • “We believe concrete solutions can be implemented immediately that will satisfy all parties” while protecting producers’ contractual rights, the Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan said in a statement on Tuesday.
  • An agreement between the producers and Iraq’s federal government is crucial to resuming exports. Baghdad has been seeking to change some of their contracts, while the companies want to keep them — and get payment of past dues before restarting output.
