Iran’s crude oil export loadings remained well below normal Oct. 10 as oil markets brace for a retaliatory strike by Israel on Iran, Platts said.
- Crude loadings averaged 816.244k b/d in the week to Oct. 9, compared to the norm of 1.7m b/d.
- The export slowdown comes as satellite images from Oct. 3 circulated appearing to show tankers leaving Kharg Island, Iran’s top crude terminal handling around 90% of its exports.
- Iran may look to move unladen tankers away from their anchorages to avoid damage from a potential Israeli strike, Platts said.
- Most of Iran’s crude flows head to Singapore and China. There are concerns of a tit-for-tat retaliatory strike on energy infrastructure.
- Iran has threatened wider oil markets in the past by attacking ships and laying mines in the straits of Hormuz, through which 18m b/d of crude and products flow.
