Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman Attacked

Unauthorized people in military uniforms boarded the oil tanker St. Nikolas early Thursday morning in the Gulf of Oman, East of Sohar, according to the UKMTO, cited by AP News.

  • The St. Nikolas is associated with the Greek shipping company Empire Navigation.
  • So far it has been unconfirmed if the vessel was attacked by the Houthi rebels.
  • “The UKMTO has received a report of a vessel being boarded by unauthorized persons at approximately 0330 UTC. CSO reports hearing unknown voices over the phone along with the Masters voice. Unable to make further contract with vessel at this time. Authorities investigating”.
  • This was followed by a note saying “UKMTO has received a report of an incident 50NM East of Sohar, Oman.”
