ONGC Applies for Sakhalin-1 Stake

India’s ONGC has applied to the new Russian operator of Sakhalin-1 to renew its stake in the project according to Reuters sources.

  • The Japanese consortium, SODECO, agreed to renew its stake last week.
  • ExxonMobil, the previous operator of the project has walked away from the operation causing production to collapse this year. It was producing 220,000 bpd of oil before the invasion. Production is understood to be recovering under the new Russian operator.
