OPEC Denies Claims Of Guyana Invitation

OPEC has denied claims it had invited Guyana to join the producer group, following reports from the Wall Street Journal on Monday, it said in a statement.

  • “In view of recent reports about Guyana being invited to become a Member of OPEC, while the Organization recognizes that Guyana is an emerging player in the international oil market with significant potential, OPEC has not invited Guyana to become a Member of the Organization.”
  • The WSJ on Monday reported that OPEC has been courting Guyana to join the producer group after the country made a transformational oil find.
