OPEC Origin Crude to China Increases

OIL

Crude oil sourced by state-owned refineries in China has progressively leaned more heavily on OPEC (excluding Iran and Venezuela) origins according to Vortexa. Refinery runs in the country have been ramping up as restrictions eased.

  • Saudi Arabia has been the leader of the China-bound export surge, with close to 1.9mbd recorded on Mar 1–17, up 20% from the previous two months – despite an increase in March OSP’s.
  • For the VLCC market, this has enabled recent freight rates from the Middle East to China and West Africa to China (TD3C and TD15) to more than treble from January to March.
