Orban Deems Discussion With EU as “Useful” Ahead of Leaders Summit

  • Following Orban’s meeting with EU’s Michel, Orban stated that the two had a “useful discussion” but gave few further details as the leaders prepare for the EU summit on December 14-15. The meeting follows a critical letter from Orban calling for a review of EU commitments to spending on Ukraine as well as sanctions strategy.
  • Later today, finance minister Varga appears in front of three separate parliamentary committee, but the most notable appearance will be any comments from the budget committee, which began 45 minutes ago.
  • Ministers representing Germany, Austria and the V4 are to hold a summit on migration today in Szeged, with the Hungarian representative seen defending Hungary’s approach to protecting borders on behalf of not only Hungary, but the broader European Union.
  • PPI data is due later this week on Thursday, with GDP, trade balance and PMI numbers following on Friday.
