HUNGARY: Orban Expects “Calmer Waters” When Trump Takes Office

  • Speaking on state radio this morning, Prime Minister Orban noted that he had spoken with "the Americans, the Russians, the Europeans, the Turks", and he was positive that once Donald Trump took office the world would undergo a stark shift, MTI report.
  • "We're still in perilous times: the governments in Germany and France have failed and Syria, the biggest source of migration in the past decade, has seen its government toppled," he said. He added, however, that no longer would "we have to navigate stormy seas" and "calmer waters lie before us".
  • There are no other major data releases scheduled for today, with focus turning to the final NBH meeting of the year on Dec 17 where no change to the base rate is the likely outcome.
