Orban Says Food Price Caps Can’t Be Lifted Yet

  • Speaking to state radio this morning, Prime Minister Orban said Hungary’s food price caps can’t be lifted yet as the inflation rate hasn’t dropped enough. “I hope a decline in the inflation rate will be more visible, more general in April,” Orban said in a state radio interview, adding he expects a larger drop in May and June.
  • Orban added that the situation in Ukraine was deteriorating every week, while the danger of the war escalating was growing. According to him, the situation is worse now than two weeks ago, since Russia has since installed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
  • Mercedes’ plant in Hungary will become one of the company’s most important as a result of the doubling of its production area, MTI report. Production of electric models will start next year, a large number of new jobs will be created and the local infrastructure will be further developed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Szijjarto said.
  • There are no major economic releases scheduled today.
