Parliament Begins PM Vote

THAILAND

The National Assembly started the PM vote after the sole candidate Pita Limjaroenrat concluded his final address to lawmakers.

  • In his final remarks, Pita vowed to "preserve the institution of monarchy in the present time," seeking to appeal to conservative lawmakers.
  • A Khaosod reporter notes that just 216 (out of 250) members of the junta-appointed Senate are present, which means that 34 are already not voting for Pita.
  • Note that the Bangkok Post had earlier reported that one Senator resigned a day before the vote.
  • Parliamentarians are reportedly voting by roll call, with each asked to say whether they vote "yes," "no," or "abstain" on Pita's PM candidacy.
