Parliament Opens Spring Session With Vote on Sweden’s NATO Bid

  • Hungary’s parliament opens its spring session with votes on Sweden’s NATO bid and the appointment of the country’s new president Tamas Sulyok. Prime Minister Orban is set to open parliament’s spring session at 12:00GMT/13:00CET. Voting on Sweden’s ratification will start at around 15:20GMT/16:20CET, while the vote on the appointment of Sulyok will start at around 15:40GMT/16:40CET.
  • GKI economic sentiment fell to -13.7 in February from -10.8 in January, according to the GKI Economic Research. Business confidence fell to -8.6 (Prior: -8) while consumer confidence was -28.1 (Prior: -19.0).
  • The NBH rate decision is the key event of the week tomorrow afternoon. Given the risks which warranted caution at the last MPC meeting have largely subsided, softer-than-expected inflation and GDP data are likely to facilitate a step-up in the easing pace to 100bps at this juncture. Nevertheless, the threat to FX stability of a more dovish policy mix poses downside risks.
