Parliament To Discuss Defence Agreement With US, CEZ Approves Higher Dividend Payout

  • The Chamber of Deputies will start debating a defence cooperation agreement with the US today. Partliament will be in session from 13:00BST/14:00CEST. The so-called Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) is publicly available here. The ruling coalition has the numbers to ratify the DCA, but it seeks wider political consensus. While the main opposition party ANO said that it would support the agreement, it is expected that the right-wing SPD party will oppose it.
  • During its annual general meeting yesterday, majority state-owned energy utility CEZ approved a record dividend of CZK145/share, which is equivalent to almost all of its profit. Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura told reporters that the higher dividend would bring around CZK10bn extra to the state budget.
  • The CNB's financial market inflation expectations survey revealed a slight moderation in one-year inflation forecast, with three-year outlook unchanged. None of the analysts expected any changes in interest rates at last week's CNB Bank Board meeting. Looking ahead, "the analysts expect only one possible scenario – a decline in key interest rates.
