Parl't To Debate, Vote On COVID-19 Measures Following Macron's Address

FRANCE

Wires and social media reporting that the French parliament is set to debate and vote on new COVID-19 measures tomorrow (1 April) following President Emmanuel Macron's televised address to the nation which takes place this evening at 2000CET (1400ET, 1900BST).

  • There is the increasing prospect that France's lockdown measures are tightened further, with the potential for schools to be forced to close and a stay-at-home order in place.
  • The major decision is whether Macron opts for a strict lockdown in those areas with high rates of incidence and 'lockdown light' in less-affected departements, or whether the full shock of a total lockdown is enacted.
  • John Lichfield at thelocal.fr reports France's ICU population at 5,702 compared to 3,036 at the start of the previous strict lockdown in October.
