PD Chief: We Do Not Want Early Election, Working w/Conte For Broad Gov't

Speaking to Radio Immagina, Democratic Party Secretary Nicola Zingaretti says that his party, the junior partner in the governing coalition, does not want snap elections following the loss of the gov'ts absolute majority in the Senate.

  • Says that the risk of early elections has been caused by former PM Matteo Renzi. Says that due to Renzi's actions snap elections are a risk but should be avoided.
  • Says the PD is working alongside PM Giuseppe Conte for a gov't with 'broad parliamentary support'.
  • Clock is ticking for Conte to secure a majority in the Senate. Has just over a week to put together enough Senators or President Sergio Mattarella could call early elections.
