Pelosi Hopes for Stimulus Before Sept. 30; 'Willing to Cut Our Bill in Half'

US

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in an interview with Politico said she hopes "that we can have an agreement before" the deadline for fiscal year funding Sept. 30.

  • "We are willing to cut our bill in half to meet the needs right now. We will take it up again in January - we'll see them in January. But for now we can cut the bill in half," Pelosi said. The bill that passed the House in May has a total price tag of $3.4 trillion.
  • "I don't want to have to wait until the CR [continuing resolution] at the end of September. More people will die. More jobs will be lost," she said.
  • "I hope not," she said, when asked whether a coronavirus stimulus would be mixed together with fiscal year spending legislation.
