Pelosi Rejects Smaller Stimulus Advocated By Fellow House Democrats

US

Speaker Nancy Pelosi told fellow Democrats in the House in a letter Thursday that a smaller coronavirus relief bill is not on the table. "We must consider their timing and strategic value," she said.

  • Pelosi told her colleagues a smaller relief bill "cannot come at the expense of" other priorities particularly support for state and local governments and education.
  • More than 100 House Democrats have urged their leadership to pass enhanced jobless benefits sooner rather than later as elections near. Stimulus talks have remained stalled as negotiators have not met face-to-face since Aug. 7.
