Pemex Refinery Runs Subdued

Pemex increased its refinery runs in December but is struggling to return utilisation rates to levels seen before a spate of fires, according to Bloomberg.

  • Utilisation rates rose to 50.6% in December, the highest level since April.
  • Half of the company’s refineries were hit by fires in May. Prior to the fires, utilisation rates averaged 56.2%.
  • Mexico’s six refineries have name plate total capacity of 1.627m b/d.
  • Refineries processed 792k b/d in 2023, down 2.9% on the year.
  • The new 340k b/d Olmeca refinery began operations in September, but Pemex did not disclose data for it. Mexico’s President said on X that it should start producing fuels by Feb. 28.
