Pending Home Sales Offer No Sign Of Further Bounce

  • Pending home sales were slightly softer than expected in April at 0.0% M/M (cons +1%) after an unrevised -5.2% in March.
  • It suggests little further bounce in existing home sales after reversing some of its bounce off lows around the turn of the year, in contrast to the notably stronger relative lift in new home sales in recent months.
  • The NAR note “Not all buying interests are being completed due to limited inventory”, continuing a recent trend in the existing sales data which whilst hindering sales have also helped limit declines in house prices.
