Pensions Set For Large Increase In March, M/m Inflation To Moderate

ARGENTINA
  • Local media report that pensions in Argentina are set to increase by 27.2% in March. This follows comments from Economy Minister Luis Caputo in an interview to La Nacion on Monday night that the government intends to provide a bonus in March to make up for losses against inflation.
  • In that same interview, Caputo also said that m/m inflation will be closer to 10% than 20% in February, following 20%+ gains in the previous two months. He said that any adjustment to the country’s 2% crawling FX peg would be a matter for the central bank and how quickly inflation falls. On Milei’s stalled omnibus bill, he said that the bill could be picked up again for another round of debates at any moment, and that the government had asked congress to do this first before they introduce a new fiscal package.
  • Today, Foreign Affairs Minister Diana Mondino will attend a foreign ministers meeting at the G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, Argentina’s main train workers union will hold a 24-hour strike of its local services.
