PERU: Inflation Data Published, Boluarte Strengthens Ties With China

  • As the main activity of her State Visit to China, President Dina Boluarte on Friday held an official meeting with President Xi Jinping. It was aimed at fostering the consolidation of the bilateral relationship in the political-diplomatic, economic-commercial, cultural, and cooperation spheres. Boluarte described the state visit as an “invaluable opportunity to strengthen the increasingly important friendship between our countries”.
  • As a reminder from our earlier post, Reuters reported the usual timely release of Peruvian CPI for June. Monthly data showed an acceleration to +0.12% M/m, according to data published on Monday by national statistics agency INEI.
    • This compares with the Bloomberg survey median estimate of +0.10% and a prior reading of -0.09% in May. Given this small beat, there could be a very moderate upside risk to the surveyed median forecast for the annual reading, which was expected to rise from 2.00% to 2.30% Y/y.
