Petrol Prices Likely To Weigh On Sentiment

AUSTRALIA DATA

The Australian Institute of Petroleum reported that petrol prices nationwide rose 6% in the first week of November to 195.9c. This was the highest since mid-July and is likely to boost inflation expectations. October saw a 7.8% m/m increase driven by the resumption of full fuel duty. Westpac’s consumer confidence survey data was conducted last week and this year higher petrol prices have weighed on sentiment. As a result, it won’t be surprising if we see the series remain soft in the latest reading.
