POWER
Poland’s PGE is expected to make its final investment decision (FID) on its 1.5GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in 2H of 2024, while its decision to build a 2.8GW nuclear plant with firm Ze Pak is “very distant,” the firm said, cited by ISB News.
- “We already have a complete set of permits, we are finalising the elements of cooperation with the partner, we are preparing for the final investment decision [for the wind farm],” director at PGE Piotr Sudol said.
- The project is anticipated to be operational by the end of 2027 and is being jointly built with Denmark's Orsted.
- Regarding its nuclear power plant, PGE and Ze Pak are still in the preliminary stage and are very far from making investment decisions, according to PGE president Dariusz Marzec.
- Poland is targeting ~7.4GW of nuclear capacity in 2040, with the first 1-1.5GW operational in 2033, according to the World Nuclear Association and Its National Energy Climate Plan.
- The country is also aiming for ~5.9GW of offshore wind by 2030.
