PHILIPPINES: Philippines Unemployment Down in December.
PHILIPPINES
- December’s unemployment rate was down at 3.1%, from 3.2% prior.
- Ahead of next week’s Central Bank decision, today’s data was positive, showing the impacts of rate cuts flowing through to the broader economy.
- The Central Bank, the BSP, meeting is on February 13th.
- Having been the first of its regional peers to cut rates in this cycle, in August and October, it remained on hold for it’s last meeting of the year in November.
- Currently (according to the BBG survey) all of the participants of the survey expect a rate cut at the next meeting.
- Today’s data release likely supports the ability for the BSP to cut at their next meeting.
