PK-SL Gas Pipeline Connects North-South Gas Corridor

ENERGY SECURITY

The Prime Ministers of Poland and Slovakia say the new gas interconnector between the two countries is a step toward raising energy security at the pipeline opening ceremony launch.

  • The Poland-Slovakia 164km long gas interconnector is a high-pressure pipeline connecting the Polish national system with Slovakia which was co-funded by the EU.
  • The pipeline enables gas transmission between the Baltic and the Adriatic Sea with Slovakia now looking for supplies from Norway and the LNG terminal in the Baltic.
  • The interconnector has a maximum capacity of up to 4.7bcm per year to Slovakia and 5.7bcm to Poland.
  • A project connecting the Czech and Polish gas pipelines is underway and Poland hope to launch the Baltic Pipe link with Norway next month.
