Plans to Raise Benefits Delayed as Key Vote Postponed

  • Goldman Sachs raised its expectations for real GDP growth across Brazil for this year to 2.1% from 1.6%, with significant increases in fiscal stimulus behind the change. Countering this, GS downgraded their 2023 view to 0.7% from 0.8%.
  • Late yesterday, the Lower House speaker Lira postponed the vote on the social aid constitutional amendment bill to July 12th, citing a lack of quorum. Folha reports that a failure in the passage of the bill would threaten plans to expand benefits during this election year.
  • IBGE inflation data crosses later today, expected to show another uptick in CPI to 0.71% M/M and 11.94% Y/Y.
