PM Lifts State Of Emergency In 6 Prefectures, But Tokyo's SoE To Remain

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announces an end to the COVID-19 state of emergency measures in six prefectures: Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Aichi and Gifu, from Sunday onwards.

  • The capital Tokyo is set to remain in a state of emergency, though, until the target end-date for all SoEs nationwide on 7 March.
  • The average number of new cases per day in Japan across the past week came in at 1,016 per day on 25 Feb, down from a peak of 6,699 per day on the week ending 10 Jan.
