PM Offers To Meet Hungary's Orban In Brussels To Advance NATO Bid

SWEDEN

Swedish outlet SVT has a letter from PM Ulf Kristersson to his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban stating that the two should hold talks on Sweden's NATO bid at next week's special European Council summit in Brussels. Earlier in the week, Orban invited Kristersson to Budapest for talks that could progress Sweden's NATO ratification process, but Sweden's Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom gave this short shrift, saying that there was little else to negotiate.

  • The letter states that "I agree with you that a more intensive political dialogue between our countries would be beneficial...completion of the ratification process of Sweden's NATO membership in the Hungarian Parliament will crete a solid foundation to move ahead in our bilateral relationship...We will also have an opportunity to meet at the important European Council in Brussels on 1 February."
