PM Orban Expected To Arrive In China On Monday

HUNGARY

Independent news portal 444.hu reports that Hungarian PM Viktor Orban will touch down in Beijing on Monday after his recent visits to Ukraine, Moscow and Azerbaijan. The article does not identify the sources of the information, but cites further indirect evidence in support of the claim.

  • Both 444.hu and other observers noted that on Sunday afternoon (European time) a Hungarian Air Force plane Dassault Falcon 7X was spotted on flight trackers on its way from Budapest to Beijing. When this is being typed, the plane is passing through the Russian airspace (currently Tyumen Oblast, Western Siberia).
  • Orban's recent travel plans were kept in secret, as he admitted in an interview he gave to Swiss newspaper Weltwoche while flying to an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Baku after his surprise trip to Russia and a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In the same interview, Orban said that we should expect another surprise foreign visit on Monday.
  • This comes as Hungary cancelled the planned visit of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, which was supposed to take place on Monday. The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told 444.hu that there was a sudden change in Minister Szijjarto's calendar, which necessitated the postponement of his meeting with his German counterpart.
