PM To Make Statement On COVID-19 In Commons Tomorrow

UK

The Leader of the House of Commons has confirmed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will make a statement on COVID-19 to the House tomorrow.

  • Statement is likely to unveil some form of stricter COVID-19 measures following a spike in cases in the UK in recent weeks and a downbeat briefing from the gov'ts top two health experts earlier today.
  • Statement likely to take place at around 1200-1300BST, after Justice questions.
  • Lots of speculation as to what new measures could be implemented to try to stop the spread of the virus. Gov't seems committed to keeping schools open, and has also made efforts to encourage individuals to return to offices if possible.
  • As such, it seems likely the hospitality sector could bear the brunt of stricter lockdown conditions, with the potential for limited opening hours or even sector-wide shutdowns.
