PM: Will Be Further Lockdown If Needed, Vaccines Can't Breed Complacency

In comments to a televised pool clip PM Boris Johnson has said that additional lockdown measures will be put in place in England if needed, saying the measures are under "constant review" and that "if we need to tighten them we will."

  • Says that the rollout of the vaccine cannot allow for complacency in social distancing, saying that "now is the moment for maximum vigilance.
  • Acknowledges that there are some oxygen shortages in some parts of the NHS as hospitalisations from COVID-19 continue to escalate.
  • Says that 40% of the UK population over the age of 80 have been given their first vaccine dose, while a total of 400k people have had their second dose of the vaccine.
