POLAND: Constitutional Tribunal Holds Hearing On Probe Into NBP Governor

POLAND
  • Constitutional Accountability Committee (ODK) chair Zdzislaw Gawlik said that the preliminary probe into NBP Governor Adam Glapinski, which is expected to kick off when parliament resumes work next month, should be finalised within a year. The committee will then advise parliament whether to put the official before the Tribunal of State and a plenary vote will be needed to press charges. In the meantime, the Constitutional Tribunal will today review legislation used to investigate the conduct of the NBP Governor, with the verdict expected around 09:00BST/10:00CEST. The ruling coalition may ignore the verdict amid well-documented questions around the current composition of the constitutional court.

  • Poland 2050's Szymon Holownia ruled out fielding a common presidential candidate agreed with other parties from the pro-EU coalition next year. He is widely believed to be planning to contest the election despite lagging behind the his presumptive rivals from the Civic Coalition and Law and Justice in early opinion polls.
