POLAND: Duda Continues China Visit, Unemployment Data On Tap

POLAND
  • President Andrzej Duda joined the opening ceremony of the WEF's Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2024 (AMNC24) in Dalian as part of his ongoing visit to China. Following his talks with President Xi Jinping, Duda announced that in the coming days China would lift visa requirements for Poles coming to the country for up to 15 days. Duda also said that he offered a comprehensive outline of Poland's view on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but refused to discuss his face-to-face talks with Xi in more detail.
  • The NBP said that its early warning models are pointing to a gradual increase in cyclical systemic risk, adding that the "increase in the intensity of risk does not justify setting the countercyclical buffer above the neutral level of the countercyclical buffer adopted by the [Financial Stability] Committee."
  • Third Way MP Ryszard Petru said that the political bloc will today table a bill in parliament lowering national insurance for both entrepreneurs and employees. The proposal may reignite tensions within the ruling coalition, with the Left opposed to the idea amid the need to secure adequate funding for public healthcare.
  • Poland's unemployment data for May will be released at 09:00BST/10:00CEST. Consensus looks for a downtick in the jobless rate to 5.0% from 5.1% in April, in line with a preliminary estimate from the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.
