Poland Focuses On Oil Independence From Russia

OIL

Poland continues to prepare for its independence from Russian fossil-fuel imports, as the country continues to receive 10% of its crude oil imports from Russia, Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa said.

  • “We started our preparations (to end the dependence on Russian oil imports) long before the war. We always wanted to be independent from Russian fossil fuels,”Moskwa said.
  • “We are ready to refine every type of oil but we need European solidarity,” she added.
  • Poland and other European countries are hoping to sanction all flows via the Druzbha pipeline but Poland is waiting for Germany’s readiness, Moskwa said.
  • Moskwa is also hoping to sanction all countries doing energy businesses with Russia as part of the EU’s next sanction package.
  • When asked whether Poland refiners would look to buy Rosneft’s stake in German refineries Moskwa said: “There are some plans but it is always a business decision. We are ready to have a stronger cooperation…we would like Germany to be fully independent from Russia, we would like Poland to be fully independent from Russia.”
  • In regards to Germany’s PCK Schwedt refinery, the minister said they are in talks with Germany, as other countries are too. It is not the main aim for Poland to buy Germany’s refineries.
  • When asked about Germany’s oil supply contract with Kazakhstan she said: “It is very difficult to prove whether the oil is Kazakh or Russian.”
