POWER: Poland Gives Nod for Supplementary Capacity Auctions

POWER

Poland’s Council of Ministers has approved a draft amendment to the Capacity Market Act, introducing supplementary auctions from 2H25-28 to bolster energy security and address gaps in generating capacity caused by EU carbon emission limits, it said, cited by ISB News.

  • Four supplementary auctions are planned under the new amendment: a half-yearly auction for 2H25 and annual auctions for the delivery years 2026, 2027, and 2028.
  • These auctions will be conducted with a short lead time, less than a year before the capacity obligation begins.
  • The regulations will come into effect 7 days after publication in the Journal of Laws.
