Poland Off For Constitution Day

  • Main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that "Poland must be in the European Union" but as a "strong, developing state, chasing the West." His party unveiled their candidates in the European election, with no major surprises on that front. Among the candidates were unseated MPs Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Wasik. The main opposition party insists that their ouster was illegal and that they formally remain MPs, but their election to the European Parliament could help defuse political tensions related to their status.
  • Poland observes a public holiday to commemorate the signing of its first constitution. Local financial markets are closed.
