Poland’s TSO PSE Issues 48GW of Renewable Connection Conditions

POWER

Poland’s operational renewable capacity is at 28GW, with connection conditions issued for an additional 48GW, which could push Poland’s renewable capacity to around 80GW in the coming years, according to Polish TSO PSE, cited by ISB news.

  • The additional 48GW of capacity includes offshore wind, PV, two nuclear power plants and small modular nuclear reactors. Decisions have also be issued for 24GW of storage, with 4GW of gas being built.
  • But “of course, this does not mean that [around 80GW] will be produced, because here the efficiency is lower,” Vice-president of the PSE board Tomasz Sikorski said.
  • Sikorski also points out that coal and lignite will still play an important role in the domestic power balance for a “long time”, with gas and storage implemented as alternative sources of power.
  • Poland’s wind, lignite, gas and hydropower plants cover around 40GW of the total installed generation capacity of 70GW.
