MNI BRIEF: ECB Needs To Use Monetary Tools In Order-Weidmann

The European Central Bank should establish a clear order for using its monetary policy tools, and clearly distinguish between standard instruments such as forward guidance and extraordinary measures, Bundesbank president Jens Weidmann told politicians in a speech Thursday.

"The extraordinary measures that we have taken in recent years also result in a different cost-benefit ratio," Weidmann told members of the right-of-centre Christian Social Union in Germany's Bundestag. "That is why, in my opinion, we should follow a clear order in which to use the instruments."
