FRANKFURT (MNI)

Vitas Vasiliauskas will represent the Nordic and Baltic countries at the International Monetary Fund when his second term as chairman of the board of the Bank of Lithuania ends early next month, it was announced Friday. Vasiliauskas, who used a February 2021 interview with MNI to call for a more flexible approach to the European Central Bank's post-pandemic bond-buying operations, steps down from the role he has held since 2011 on April 7.

He was chosen by Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to take over from Finland's Mika Poso as Executive Director of the Nordic-Baltic Constituency in January 2023, and will serve a three-year term
