Poll Shows Boost For Guttierez, Colombia observes national holiday.

  • The first poll since Colombia’s congressional elections and primaries shows a surge in support for Federico Gutierrez, turning May’s vote for the presidency into a two-horse race, Semana magazine reported.
    • Guttierez, a former mayor of Medellin, obtained 23% of voter intentions in the poll by Centro Nacional de Consultoria, up from 4% in February. However, in the same poll, frontrunner Gustavo Petro saw his support rise to 32% from 27%.

  • Senator Gustavo Petro’s leftist Pacto Historico party got at least 380,000 more votes for the senate than initially reported, according to the national electoral authority. (BBG)
    • With 97% of votes counted by hand, Petro’s party had nearly 2.7m votes, compared to the preliminary total of 2.3m.
    • The result means that Pacto Historico is likely to get more than the 16 senate seats originally reported.
    • El Tiempo newspaper estimates that the party may get three additional seats in the upper house. (BBG)
