Polls Signal PM’s Labour Party On Track To Lose 2023 Election

NEW ZEALAND

PM Ardern and her Labour party have fallen further in the latest poll by 1News Kantar. Labour fell 1pp to 33% while the opposition Nationals rose 1pp to 38% and the minor ACT party to 11%. Elections are due next year.

  • Ardern’s personal popularity fell to a new low of 28% but is still ahead of National leader Luxon’s 23% (+2pp).
  • A bi-election is to be held in the bellwether seat of Hamilton West on December 10 and a separate poll shows that the National party should win there.
  • This news follows a difficult week for the government after it had to reverse a decision to put a 60% majority clause in the Three Waters legislation and there was a slow response by Ardern to a murder in her electorate.
