Portman: I Don't Think Schumer Will Get Single GOP Vote On Bipart Infra Deal

US

With the US Senate due to vote on two huge infrastructure bills later today as majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attempts to provide some impetus to the process, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) has stated that he will not vote for the bipartisan deal as is, and he does not expect any of his Republican colleagues to do so either. Portman says that there are still 'some outstanding issues' following talks that went on late into the night on Tuesday.

  • Portman has been the leading Republican on getting the smaller bipartisan deal through the Senate, and without his support the 60 votes (including 10 Republicans) required to invoke cloture on the bill seem extremely unlikely.
  • Procedural vote on advancing the bipartisan infrastructure deal is expected to take place at 1430ET (1930BST, 2030CET). Still potential for the vote to be delayed to give senators more time to finalise the text.
