MNI BRIEF: Brazilian May Inflation Up To 4.23% In June

Brazil's IPCA inflation was 0.21% in June below the 0.30% consensus and down from 0.46% in May, a positive sign for the central bank but one unlikely to change the BCB's stance of holding rates steady for the foreseeable future.
In annual terms, prices rose by 4.23%, up from 3.93% in May, , the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said Wednesday. The consensus was for 4.32%.
"The group of products and services that had the main impact was Food and beverages, which increased by 0.44%, lower than in May (0.62%), and contributed 0.10 percentage points to the June index," IBGE said.
