US TSYS: ### POV: RED CARPET STILL OUT FOR CHINA TRADE DELEGATION
- Regarding mention of "Chinese Law" in earlier trade headline (CHINA SAID TO
TELL U.S. SIDE WON'T CHANGE CHINESE LAW FOR DEAL, Bbg) -- is in relation to
intellectual property "laws" that force "U.S. companies seeking to do business
in the country to reveal proprietary technologies and other intellectual
property". US trade Rep Lighthizer had thought issue over "forced technology
transfer" had been ironed out -- spurring Trump tariff threat late Sunday after
IP concession appeared unfounded.
- Earlier chatter: Everything will retrace on one well placed tweet/headline
that US/China agree...or kick can down road. Risk-off unwind gaining momentum in
late trade apparently on back of latest: @CNBCnow BREAKING: Chinese delegation
will still come to the U.S. for trade talks after Trump's surprise tariff threat
- Was it ever in doubt they would come? All have vested interest in succeeding.
BUT China intellectual property law remains the tough nut to crack. If THAT gets
resolved, get your Equity/Risk-On rally caps on -- but doubt it, more likely
some iteration of can kicking again.
