FED: Powell asked about Fed's policies that need to be undertaken to meet the
unemployment mandate.
- A: Says unemp likely to peak over next month or so, may fall but stay above
pre-virus level. May take time to get back to very low unemployment and low
inflation. Main thing to do is get on the road to recovery and stay on it.
- On fiscal policy: Congress has moved quickly with its fiscal response. Not our
role to supervise Congress, it's the other way around. We will eventually have
to return to a sustainable fiscal path, not the time now to prioritize these
considerations. Can get back to them quickly in a few years when economy is well
and truly recovered/recovering.
- Growing sense recovery may come more slowly than we would like. May mean Fed
has to do more.
