POWER: CEE Europe Leads Solar Growth

Solar PV output from in Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania increased by 55% on the year in the first seven months of this year, Ember data showed, cited by Reuters.

  • The increase in solar PV capacity in the region is mostly driven by Poland and Hungary. 
  • Polish solar PV output was at 11.3TWh in January-July, up by 33.3% on the year. 
  • Solar PV generation in Hungary soared 47.7% year on year in January-July to 5.8TWh this year. 
  • In the past five years, the CEE region has boosted solar generation by around 49% per year. This compares to an annual growth of 16% in Western Europe – an already more mature solar PV market.
