Corporate PPA agreements in Romania have increased sharply over Jan-Oct 2024, reaching 568MW from just 74MW in 2023— fuelled by sweeping policy changes and financial incentives, BNEF data show.

  • Saint-Gobain Group leads the activity, signing a 509MW deal with OMW Petrom SA.
  • Additionally, A CfD scheme launched recently targets 5GW of new onshore wind and solar PV projects across two auctions in 2024 and 2025.
  • The new projects aim to surpass the country’s 4.2 GW of installed coal and gas capacity as of 2023.
  • The government plans to introduce guarantees of origins (GOOs), enabling trading across EU member states through the Association of Issuing Bodies.
